Amazing Shake Round 1 is tomorrow! Students have been working on manners, discipline, respect, and how to interact in a professional environment. Students will spend 1 minute interacting with staff at different stations. They are scored on handshake firmness, eye contact, confidence, etc. Its going to be a great day!

Happy March 5th! We hope you have had a great virtual day! We at CHIS just want to let you know that we remember how hard it is to do virtual school at home. As we planned for this day, all teachers tried to send home only work that would be a good review for students... things they have already learned and could just use extra practice in. While we know parents and guardians want to help their child be successful, we also know that you have not been in the classrooms learning the material each day. That is perfectly ok! If your student struggles with the work today, your job is just to encourage them do their best and use the resources they have available. Feel free to write a note to the child's teacher letting them know they have tried. Our goal is the same as yours... to ensure each student has the opportunity to learn everything they need to be successful in the next grade level. With that said, also know that students will be given until Friday to complete assignments, and teachers will allot some time each day to answer any questions they may have. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send your child's teacher a message so you can continue to work together to support the student. As always, we appreciate the support of our community and your willingness to work as partners toward an excellent education for each child. Sherry Price

On the morning of Monday, February 26, 2024, I can confirm that an auto-accident occurred involving Hawkins County students and a Hawkins County bus driver. I am glad to report that only two students were involved. They were both transported from the scene to receive medical attention and appear to have suffered only minor injuries. But I am heartbroken to report Aleita Gladson has passed away. Aleita was a longtime and valued Hawkins County Schools team member, as a bus driver, as a secretary, and as assistant director within our Transportation Department. Our prayers go out to her family, and we would ask that all those within our Hawkins County community keep Aleita’s family in your prayers as well. We pray too for the other driver involved in this accident. I will take a moment here as well to provide our heartfelt thanks to the many first responders who rushed to the accident scene to care for all those involved. At this time though, out of respect for all of the people and families affected by this tragic accident, neither I nor Hawkins County Schools will have any further comment.
